Alan’s
Bio-
Alan
moved to Telluride, Colorado during the summer of '95. The
serenity of the region captured his attention as well as
his photographic eye. In his early days as a
photojournalist for the Telluride Watch and later the
Telluride Daily Planet, Alan earned over a dozen awards
from the Colorado Press Association. “I just love
capturing life” he said in an interview regarding his
numerous awards. After a three and a half year stint in
photojournalism and over a dozen Press Association Awards
Alan felt it was time to move on. “I just woke up one
day and found that I wanted to create images, not capture
them. Photojournalism is about capturing the decisive
moment that life gives you.”
It was in the spring of 2002 that Alan decided to open
‘Studio Cuenca’, Telluride’s only
photographic studio. Alan loves to photograph just about
everything under the sun-still life, architecture, food,
jewelry, weddings and portraits. “I’m the only
photographer in the area with the capability to work in a
controlled environment, which is critical when
photographing still life and people.” Don’t let
Alan fool you, he also believes in natural light.
“Each assignment has its’ own needs and
demands…not everything can be shot indoors.”
“I am grateful for my time at the newspapers, they
helped me become a well rounded photographer. I feel
fortunate not to be specialized in just one field of
photography…it keeps it fun and interesting.”
It was during the fall of 2004 that Alan and his wife
relocated to Durango, CO. Thus opening up new possibilities
and new subjects to photograph. Now working in Durango as
well as keeping his clientele in Telluride Alan happily
commutes between the two. "As far a a commute goes, I feel
I've got the best commute in the world. Always beautiful,
always changing."
